Norman Hooks (Chair)

Born in Nottinghamshire and after qualifying as teacher, Chemistry & Physics, taught in several areas before settling in North Staffordshire and Cheshire for 25 years.

After retiring moved to Stocksfield to support young grandchildren Norman soon joined the management committee of Stocksfield Community Association – becoming chairman in 2004.  Later he spent 5 years on Stocksfield Parish Council and during that time he and Pete Duncan encouraged the Parish Council to create a Community Development Trust for Stocksfield which led to the creation of SCATA; registered at Companies House in 2011.

In partnership with ISOS Housing (now Karbon Homes) SCATA developed 7 affordable homes for rent; the first such housing development in Stocksfield. Always keen to support the provision of more affordable homes Norman is currently working  with Karbon Homes and Prudhoe Community Partnership on a project to build eight 1-bed flats on the site of a redundant Methodist Church.

In 2023, on becoming chair of SCATA, Norman stood down as chair of its parent charity, Stocksfield Community Association but remains on its board of trustees.

He is a trustee of Community Action Northumberland and of Stocksfield Tuesday Club which he helped to start in 2011 and an active volunteer with the Tyne Rivers Trust - but still spends time on his large allotment.
